YouTube again receives useful function on Apple’s iOS 14.5

IPhone users who access the YouTube website can again take advantage of the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) in the latest Beta version of iOS 14.5. In this trial version Apple decided to restore this accessibility function on the website.

According to the testimony of several users, YouTube’s PiP mode works not only through Safari, but also through other browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox. This feature may reach the stable version of iOS 14.5, for the public.

To take advantage of YouTube’s PiP mode, after opening a video through the website, the user must activate the full / full screen mode and then touch the icon that signals the function picture-in-picture.

This will create a floating window in which the video continues to play, being displayed on top of the other content displayed on the Apple phone interface. In this way, we can perform other actions on the iPhone while watching a video.

From here we can effectively minimize the browser and use other iPhone applications and services without interrupting content playback. Note that this also applies to other websites that display videos on their pages.

Function introduced with iOS 14 and later removed by Apple

In the latest iOS 14.5 beta, Picture in Picture mode is working again on YouTube’s website, in not just Safari, but in every browser I have on my iPhone. ¯ _ (ツ) _ / ¯ pic.twitter.com/pP8cRsO3xU

Above we see this same function in use in iOS 14.5 – Beta version. The user accesses the YouTube website, opens a video and starts playing it in full screen, immediately afterwards activating the PiP mode while continuing to use the iPhone.

We remind you that Apple introduced this feature last September with iOS 14, however, it would remove the function without justifying it. Now, with the latest version of iOS, functionality is back.

The reasons for this change are not known, but it is certain that it will be available again for iPhone users. Now, it remains to be seen whether it will reach the final version, available to the general public.
