As expected, Xiaomi today introduced the Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8. This Smart Display comes to counteract the Google Nest Hub in both its functionality and design.
In fact, we cannot say that Xiaomi was inspired to design this new gadget. The similarities to Nest Hub are noticeable, but there are some details that set them apart.
The personal assistant present in this gadget is XiaoAI. This makes it a gear aimed at China and of little use in Europe, unless you master Mandarin.
Xiaomi Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 arrives with an 8 inch screen
The Xiaomi Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 comes with an 8 inch touchscreen. This diagonal gives the user 36% more usable screen compared to the Google Nest Hub 7 inch screen.
Although the resolution of this screen is not known, Xiaomi says its image will be of high quality. It will also have an oleophobic layer so that your fingerprints are not marked.
This Smart Display comes equipped with three subwoofers allocated at its round base, measuring 50.8mm each. Its speakers feature professional DTS sound.
Video calling will be possible in conjunction with a Smart TV
Above the screen is a video call camera. We do not know the resolution of this lens, but we are aware of a very interesting compatibility.
The Xiaomi Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 will allow you to make video calls with some of the brand's smart TVs. Supported models are Mi TV Pro 55 ”, Mi TV Pro 65”, Mi TV 5 Pro 55 ”and Mi TV 5 Pro 65”. This feature will be available until February 28, 2020 via OTA.
Like other products of its kind, this Xiaomi Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 will be compatible with a wide range of IoT products from various brands. In the future, it will be possible to connect gadgets through voice commands.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi Mi AI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 will go on sale in China on December 18th. Its price will be approximately € 77.
An international version of this gadget is unknown, but it would be interesting if Xiaomi adapted it for Google Assistant. Otherwise, it will not be of much use in western markets.
