Fortunately, UK is not one of the countries that suffer the most from earthquakes, however, Asia cannot boast of it. That is certainly why Xiaomi has decided to implement a new feature in MIUI that warns users about earthquakes near them.
The feature is not yet official in all MIUI, however, it is believed that its implementation could reach the Chinese ROM in the coming weeks and could also move to Global ROM.
Xiaomi MIUI will show a warning popup with details of earthquakes
For this kind of feature I don't mind having a popup interrupting my favorite video or game. Apparently, the feature will warn earthquake detection as soon as possible to users where the location is close to the epicenter or who can feel the earth shaking.
The pop-up shows how richter's earthquake is and how far away the epicenter is. Note that this is an immersion message, so it will override the information above any application being used.
Seconds save lives
Studies indicate that if people have more than 3 seconds of earthquake warning that can reduce injuries and deaths by 14%. A seriously high number for small seconds of warning.
Earthquakes are easily predicted, but timely warnings are complex to reach everyone. Since the smartphone is a gadget that even goes with us to the bathroom, nothing better than enjoying a piece of life-saving technology.
We don't know yet what Xiaomi's functionality will look like, but we do know that we want more manufacturers to think about features like this. Only a few operators now warn of possible tragedies to users. It is time for manufacturers to improve users' lives and perhaps save lives.
