Evaluating a completely wireless headset is not exactly an easy task. The market is full of options, and finding the perfect model for each user is a herculean task. If you’re looking for something cheap, with a long-lasting battery, a non-invasive design for your ear canal and call quality above the asking price, Xiaomi’s Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic may be for you.
I tested these headsets for about two weeks, and the truth is that I was quite surprised by their quality. I am not a fan of this “à la AirPods” aspect, but the truth is that they ended up becoming my preferred option during these days, taking into account its simplicity and comfort. Below, you can see my video review.
Once the strips are out of the box, it’s impossible not to notice their design. And if it’s not your beach, you quickly forget that when you start using them. To connect them the first time, just open the box and they immediately appeared on the devices to pair. After you do this once, whenever you open the box, they automatically turn on in less than 5 seconds (either on Android or iOS).
Strengths of Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic:
- Long-lasting battery
- Above average call quality
- Proximity sensor
Weaknesses of Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic:
- Low sound in bass
- Lack of battery level indicator in the box
- Volume cannot be controlled on the earphones
The battery of Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic impresses
There are four points that Xiaomi highlights when promoting these headsets: quick connection, long battery life, noise reduction in calls and stable Bluetooth signal. Above I already confirmed that the connection is really fast. And as for the battery, I was amazed considering what I have already tested in this price range.
Xiaomi says that the headset battery lasts for 5 hours, and I found myself easily reaching that value – as long as I didn’t abuse the volume. In addition, the box gives 20 hours of additional battery (about four charges). This made me simply forget to carry them.
Calls are above average quality
The third point – the reduction of noise in calls – is probably what I liked most about these headsets. They proved to be more competent than headsets that cost eight times more in the clarity of the calls I made. And that makes them very recommendable for that purpose. As for the Bluetooth signal, nothing to point out. When I was in a room next to the equipment they were connected to, I could still hear music without any cut.
Depth sensor is a luxury you will not give up
A feature of these earphones that I loved was their depth sensor. It recognizes when you remove one or both headsets, and pauses the content you are listening to. And as soon as you put them back on, that content starts over immediately.
These also have touch controls, which allow you to pause and play the music again. However, these controls lack a volume controller. In my experience, they have not always worked, and can be activated accidentally. But once you get used to your position, it will definitely improve your experience. Through these touch controls you can also activate the virtual assistant of your choice.
Audio does not impress on low tones
When it comes to sound, these headsets don’t have a full-bodied audio. This is due to the fact that the profile of the earphones does not allow a large preponderance of low tones. Here the treble and midrange stand out, which results in a sound where you don’t feel that punch, as in headsets where there is a rubber that also allows some passive noise cancellation.
On the other hand, this favors users who don’t like something intrusive. Although showy to the outside, these earphones are not invasive to the user’s ear. And that makes you able to use them for a while without major problems.
For 39.99 € you can get a completely wireless headset with better audio quality, especially if you want powerful bass. But these Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic offer a very complete package for what they cost.
5 reasons to buy Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic:

If you like touch controls and you value the proximity sensor, these are earphones for you. If you like a non-invasive design to the ear and do many calls with earphones, this is also a wise choice.
