Xiaomi just launched on its crowdfunding platform – Youpin – a new gadget called Xiaomi Mi Pai. This is an HDMI dongle that has everything to be the perfect alternative to the popular Google Chromecast. In addition to presenting a design extremely inspired by the latest Chromecast, it also has an asset that many would not expect.
Xiaomi Mi Pai doesn’t need you to have an internet connection available to stream content to any TV or monitor. In this way, the versatility and ease of use anywhere, becomes much greater.
How Xiaomi’s alternative to Google Chromecast works
Although its design is practically identical, this new Xiaomi gadget works quite differently from the Chromecast. I remind you that to use Google Chromecast you need to have a WiFi network available, so that you can carry out the process of configuring it.
In the case of Xiaomi Mi Pai, this is not necessary. The gadget does not need to have a WiFi connection available, connecting directly to your smartphone. Basically, Xiaomi Mi Pai creates its own WiFi network and it is through this network that it is able to transmit the image from your smartphone to the television.
Although in many situations this gadget can be the perfect alternative to Chromecast because it is not necessary to have a WiFi network available, many users may not be big fans. Obviously, Xiaomi Mi Pai does not arrive with the same operating protocols typical of Chromecast.
Instead of “casting” the contents, this dongle it basically works as a mirror of your smartphone screen, presenting all the contents directly on the television.
With regard to image quality, it supports playback of content with a Full HD resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. This limitation may also be an deal breaker for many users.
For now, only its launch in China has been confirmed, where it is available for around € 37, but it is expected that it will eventually be available in the usual stores from China.
