Yesterday we were very surprised to hear that Google had withdrawn all access of Xiaomi / Mijia products to its ecosystem. As a result, all users who had Xiaomi products integrated into their Google Assistant or Google Home will no longer be able to use them.
This was due to a problem with branded devices which started to display random user camera feeds in some situations. To be sure, this is not the scenario that no user imagines when buying a security camera.
Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the problem is solved!
If Google acted promptly to prevent more users from having their privacy at risk, Xiaomi did not lag behind at the speed with which it resolved the issue. Just a day after “breaking the news”, the brand has officially confirmed that the problem has been identified and fixed.
Through an official statement, the company again stressed that it always maintains the privacy and security of personal information of its users as a top priority. After receiving information about the problem with the Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p connection and Google Home Hub, your team went to work to resolve the issue.
Xiaomi conducted an investigation after resolving the issue, finding that the issue was caused by an update of cache on December 26th. This update was made to improve the quality of the streams, but eventually had an unwanted side effect on some users.
According to the brand, this was only true for users who had a very poor internet connection. Xiaomi went even further, reporting that it found 1044 users affected by this issue. Please note that this issue has not occurred for users who have their cameras connected to the Mi Home app.
When will Google end blocking Xiaomi products?
Although the manufacturer has confirmed that the issue is already resolved, there is still no information on when Google may re-enable interaction between Xiaomi products and their ecosystem.
While Xiaomi was extremely quick to solve the problem, surely the Google team of engineers will need to review reports on the brand’s investigation. In addition, they will still need to test the various products to ensure that the problem does not persist.
Still, you will expect everything to return to normal within a few days.
