We can say that Xiaomi is one of the manufacturers that tries most to innovate in the mobile segment. The company unveiled its Mix range that completely changed the aspects of smartphones a few years ago.
Well, the new patent shows that the brand is thinking “outside the box”. In this patent we see a terminal with a double screen on the side that opens. Something identical to the Mi Mix 3 but instead of opening on the top, it opens on the side. As far as we can see we will also have a screen just under the cameras.
Here’s Xiaomi’s patent on a dual-screen smartphone
We have to look at patents as they really are. That is, nothing guarantees us that we will have a smartphone identical to the one in the picture. Xiaomi registered the smartphone patent because it certainly took hours and hours to develop it.
So, and looking at the mobile segment at the moment, I do not think that this type of smartphone can be revealed. Still, surprises exist and, for the most part, my guesses are wrong.
A side screen for the front cameras
Apparently, like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, this side screen would hide the front cameras. We counted 5 holes, however, I don’t think these holes are all chambers. However, I also don’t see much sense when hiding sensors behind the main screen. That is, these small holes are unknown.
The smartphone looks “normal” until you open it on the side. I see the sense of this happening for the front camera, however, I do not see what could be added on the secondary screen in order to be useful.
In short, we have to wait and see. Patents are just like that. At least we have a glimpse of what the company is working on right now.
