Market research firm Counterpoint Research has revealed the state of the mobile phones market in India. The numbers reveal Xiaomi's undisputed leadership, followed by brands like Samsung, Vivo, Realme and Oppo.
These figures refer to the third quarter of 2019 (Q3), which corresponds to the months of July, August and September. In total, around 49 million mobile phone units were sold, across all brands. The report highlights new releases and promotions to justify this increase.
The best selling brands in India and the respective shares
Xiaomi – 26%
Samsung – 20%
Live – 10%
Really, – 3%
Oppo – 8%
Thus, we can conclude that Xiaomi reigns in the mobile phone market in India. The Chinese brand is responsible for 26% of total sales in the country. Of course, this success is due to the sub-brand Redmi, which has been hugely successful among Indian users.
Next up is Samsung, which has always had a captive place in India. The company experienced a 3% annual decline but its sales remain solid. The newly released ranges A and M are responsible for this stability.
Really, alive and earned the highest annual growth
If we look at last year's numbers for Vivo and Realme, the companies had 10% and 3% market shares, respectively. However in just one year they have seen massive growth in sales and popularity.
Vivo closed the third quarter of 2019 with a 7% growth in market share. Realme rose an impressive 13%, leaving Oppo behind in the ranking of best-selling brands.
As such, Xiaomi and Samsung may see their positions threatened in future years. If Vivo and Realme continue to grow at this pace and the leaders stagnate, they will lose their coveted positions faster than they think.
