Xiaomi confirms: Google Phone and Messaging apps remain preinstalled on their smartphones

MIUI has improved a lot in recent years, and one more step in that direction is the official confirmation that your smartphones will globally come with pre-installed Google Phone and Messaging apps.

This means that Xiaomi devices sold outside of China, India and Indonesia will include these Google apps, rather than their equivalent solutions. Although the measure is now official, it is already in place on some devices.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro comes with Google Messaging and Phone preinstalled

Since the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, all branded smartphones have been launched globally with these preinstalled applications. This is because Xiaomi wants to respect “worldwide privacy laws and restrictions”.

You can no longer record calls with the Google app

This measure is applauded, but it has a drawback. It is no longer possible to record calls. This is because if the Xiaomi Phone app allowed it to do so, the same is not true of Google’s counterpart.

However, Xiaomi leaves the guarantee that by 2020 it will be possible to record calls on Xiaomi devices again, but using the Google app. So it will be a matter of time before this feature is back.

As a fan of Google services, and apps like Messaging, this is a measure I applaud from Xiaomi. Who will not like the measure are users who prefer Xiaomi solutions, or do not have a device where Google apps are already preinstalled.
