Wikipedia is an almost inexhaustible source of information, especially when we want to know something fast. But the truth is that the design has remained unchanged for about ten years.
As the goal of making search on the site even simpler, the desktop version will undergo some changes. And animated GIFs were shared that show us what to expect.
Simpler navigation on long pages
“Table of contents” will be a shortcut in the upper right corner that promises to be your companion in long pages. It will be quite simple to jump to the parts of pages that interest you within two clicks.
“Collapsible” sidebar will reach Wikipedia
As The Verge says, the second change will be a “collapsible sidebar”. The idea is quite simple: it will be possible to hide the left sidebar to avoid distractions during navigation.
According to Wikipedia, these will be the “first of many changes in a long and complex process”. This means that you will be able to test the news before they become official. We can expect the changes to be fully implemented by the end of 2021.
At first glance, they appear to be well-matured changes, with the main objective of making life easier for the user. Especially the possibility of jumping more easily to the content you want, promises to save some time.
