A study by the National Communications Authority (ANACOM) has elected Vodafone UK as the best performing operator in 3G and 4G mobile networks. At this early stage, the Alentejo was the crumbling zone.
The study was conducted from May 7 to 28, with a strong focus on the districts of Portalegre, Beja and Évora, but also in part of Santarém and Setúbal. In addition to the use of mobile data, performance on voice calls was also considered for the study.
Audio quality and latency are strengths of Vodafone
Vodafone stood out in the “call set up time”, data transfer speed ”,“ audio quality ”,“ web page transfer duration ”,“ video quality ”or“ latency ”indicators where it hit both MEO and US.
However, it turned out to have less positive points. In the “call termination ratio” or “GSM signal level”, MEO dominated.
Vodafone average download speed is almost twice the competition
Vodafone presented “average rates of 34.10 megabytes per second (Mbps) and 14.97 Mbps, respectively for download and upload”, standing out against the competition.
In comparative terms, MEO achieved “average rates of 18.11 Mbps and 9.10 Mbps, respectively for download and upload”. NOS stood for “15.83 Mbps and 6.78 Mbps”.
Overall, MEO eventually took second place, closing the podium for NOS. This analysis took into account “891 voice calls, 5853 data sessions and 55,059 radio signal measurements, corresponding to approximately 297 voice calls, 325 data sessions and 61,200 radio signal measurements by indicator and operator”.
