The new iPad Air arrived officially and with new features that are relevant to the Apple world. And I'm not talking just because it gives us the new A14 processor.
This new processor will be the chip that will be integrated in the iPhone 12, however, the feature that left me with greater hope was the TouchID of the iPad Air which is located on the device's “On / Off” button.
IPad Air's TouchID may well arrive on the iPhone 12
This new iPad Air follows the design ideology of the new iPhone 12. That is, the sides of the tablet are “flat” and smooth. Something that has been said for a long time for the new iPhones.
In the revelation of the iPad Air, Apple showed its new device unlocking technology with the TouchID on the On / Off button. This feature is not new in the mobile world.
Manufacturers such as Sony, Huawei, Samsung or even Xiaomi have long since done so. However, Apple since investing in FaceID has completely abandoned the idea of the fingerprint sensor.
Screen fingerprint reader is “too expensive”
We could even say that there was no reason for Apple to implement this sensor on the iPhone because the phone has an OLED screen. That is, perfect for the biometric sensor on the screen.
However, since when have we seen Apple investing something that is in fashion with competitors? Furthermore, it is an investment that would cost Apple more, that is, an even more expensive iPhone.
Since FaceID is (and was) the biggest investment, TouchID is believed to come only for a while. At least until the pandemic passes and people stop wearing a mask.
This is because FaceID does not work perfectly with masking. That is, users with a biometric fingerprint reader are grateful to have it.
Dream big on the iPhone 12?
In short, I may even be dreaming very loudly. However, I do believe that Apple will reveal the TouchID on the side of the iPhone. On the On / Off button. Something that we will only know at the event that should happen next month.
