The Age of Samurai: the new Neflix series with history and (lots of) action!

The new Netflix series hit the platform on February 24, with 6 episodes already available to watch in the first season. Described as a documentary series, it is full of action with an emphasis on violence, intrigue and emotion during the “sengoku jidai” period.

Exploring one of the most troubled and unstable phases in the history of Japan, the Netflix series already occupies a prominent place in the Top 10 in UK as one of the most viewed content and there are already those who compare it to the HBO Game of Thrones phenomenon.

“Age of Samurai” is the new documentary series available for viewing on Netflix

The series is produced by the Canadian studio Cream Productions, with the trailer above, has six episodes in this first part, or season. The tone of the series is closer to an action movie than to a documentary series itself.

Looking at the history of Japan during the 16th century, a period ruled by violence, fighting between clans and feudal lords for control over more regions and, ultimately, the nation. Armed conflict permeates virtually every episode available.

The first story line follows Date Masamune, a famous samurai and nicknamed the One-eyed Dragon, being one of the most illustrious of his time. Furthermore, according to some rumors, it was George Lucas who inspired him to create Darth Vader’s helmet.

This series is suitable for those who like to see period dramas, action-packed documentaries and a reconstruction of events. The production took special care to recreate the environment of the time, including characteristic weapons and armor.

The first six episodes are now available for viewing on Netflix UK.
