Last night (18) there was an accident in Felgueiras that involved a Tesla Model X. According to information provided by Jornal de Notícias, the electric car lost its way and ended up hitting a house and an electricity pole.
Due to the violence of the collision, the car ended up on fire and victimized its driver, who was unable to leave the vehicle. It was not yet possible to determine whether the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was victimized during the crash or due to the fire.
The victim’s girlfriend was one of the witnesses of the accident, following Tesla in another vehicle. However, there are no known statements yet to explain how it all happened and the possible reasons for the fire.
Hugo Meireles, commander of Lixa’s Volunteer Firefighters, revealed that “The alert we received was for a vehicle totally engulfed in flames. Upon our arrival, we confirmed the situation and started to fight the flames, using the technical procedures appropriate to electric vehicles, a foam to cause the flames to cool and muffle.“.
Tesla electric car placed immediately in the spotlight after an accident
Inevitably, shortly after the news was released, attacks on social media on Tesla’s electric cars and the alleged increased danger of lithium batteries began. However, it is impossible to make any kind of judgment without knowing in detail the real causes of this accident, which eventually resulted in the fire of the electric car.
One thing is for sure, both electric cars and gasoline or diesel can possibly catch fire as a result of accidents. Any vehicle before being allowed to be sold and to be driven on the roads, undergoes a large number of safety tests.
We hope that eventually the reasons that led to this accident will be investigated, in order to avoid similar accidents in the future.
