SEGA prepares a new mini console
In an interview conducted by Famitsu, Okunari reviewed what the launch of the Game Gear Micro had meant. This miniaturized version of SEGA’s first laptop was launched exclusively in Japan, and sadly it has not reached other markets, so beyond the obvious question of whether there would be any plans to do so, the interview led him to talk about future plans, and that’s where the interesting thing comes.
For the next Mini, we are considering everything anyone could imagine. Of course, this does not mean that we can bring all of them to life. But we are also thinking of projects that nobody has imagined. The Game Gear Micro has been sold domestically in Japan. When we do the next one, I feel that the projection of the project will be much bigger and we will be able to cover the world.
Seeing his words, it is clear that SEGA is developing a new miniature console, but the question would be in which console they will dare to launch. Okunari also wanted to enter there, indicating that it will be a concept similar to the Mega Drive mini. “It could be an SG-1000 mini or a Dreamcast mini.”
Seeing the two models that he proposes, Okunari could be playing with the fans, since the fork that he leaves us is simply huge, selecting from the SEGA’s first console until the last, so his words might hide a joke. Even so, seeing how the launches of other manufacturers have gone, a miniature Dreamcast seems like the perfect launch, although when we think coldly, a Saturn would fit more, simply by chronology.
Will have to wait
Be it one or the other, it seems that we will have to wait a long time to see the new model on the market. The manager has confirmed that the launch will not occur until at least two years have passed since the launch of the Mega Drive mini, and taking into account that it arrived in Europe on October 4, 2019, we still have at least one year left to be able to leave of doubts and continue receiving news about it. What is your bet?
