As with previous years, Spotify has now published the complete list of the most popular artists of 2020, separated into several categories. This year, we witnessed the “bursting” of podcasts, being a category in great prominence also in the rankings from Spotify.
In this new segment, the most popular was Joe Rogan, leading the podcast ranking. Certainly, this victory does not come with much surprise, considering the millionaire investment made by Spotify to guarantee Rogan’s exclusivity on its platform.
In the music world, it was Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny to take the top spot, with more than 8 billion streams made in 2020.

In 2020, playlists were shaped according to various events:
- Lists with the WFH theme (Work from home) increased by 1,400% +
- Over 65,000 lists have been created with the title “BLM” or “Black Lives Matter”
This year, the most popular time to consume podcasts was between 6AM and 9AM, confirming that users still prefer to listen to their favorite podcasts during their commute to work.
