Snapdragon 888: the first three smartphones with the new Qualcomm SoC

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset was formally presented on December 1, at Qualcomm’s annual event where we learn about the improvements of the new processor. Meanwhile, several manufacturers have promised new smartphones with this SoC.

Aware of the voracity of consumers, Xiaomi, Realme – OPPO’s satellite company – and Samsung will be the first three manufacturers to use the new mobile platform in high-end smartphones. We already have some information about each one.

Xiaomi will be the first manufacturer to use the Snapdragon 888 on the Mi 11

As previously reported, the Xiaomi promised to be the first smartphone manufacturer to introduce the Snapdragon 888 to the market. It will do so, according to itself, through the next pair of tops of range, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11.

The promise was made by Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, through the brand’s social media and official channels moments after the official presentation of the Snapdragon 888 on keynote from Qualcoom. Taking advantage of the occasion, the CEO also confirmed the name of the next top smartphones.

As of the writing of this article, we do not have an official presentation date for the new Xiaomi, although rumors suggest a presentation in January. It should be noted, however, that the arrival on the market – launch – may take place later.

Realme wants the new Snapdragon in its Race

The opinion of some of the most respected analysts in the market points to Realme as one of the first to put this new processor in the hands of consumers. In fact, you can do it with one of the most competitively priced smartphones.

Note also that the nomenclature “Race” will be a code name, with the final product adopting a more familiar scheme. However, the most interesting point may be the price of 600 or less dollars, the suggested price for this flagship.

We also know that this smartphone from Realme will have up to 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage, will use the Android 11 operating system with the Realme UI 2.0 interface, with the model name being RMX2202.

OPPO will also want this new chipset

Like its sub-brand, the parent company is also expected to put a new Android smartphone with the Snapdragon 888 on the market during the first quarter. We have at least one new member of the Find 3 line, the top series from the Chinese manufacturer.

We point to this OPPO Find 3, or several smartphones composing this line, the use of an especially captivating screen. According to rumors, it will have full support for the DCI-P3 standard and color at 10-bit depth.

Samsung will surprise with the Galaxy S21

The world’s largest smartphone maker, South Korea Samsung, also prepares a new generation of top mobile devices. Among them, we have the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 + (Plus) and Galaxy S21 Ultra, if you keep the schematic and follow the nomenclature used in 2020.

That said, we count on the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor in the North American variant, and its arrival in Europe is neither certain nor expected. On the other hand, we have a slight drop in the base prices for sales to the public.

Among the highlights of the Galaxy S21 line we have AMOLED screens with a high refresh rate at 120 Hz, new processors, improvements in cameras, and general increments in various aspects and general points of mobile devices.

Finally, taking into account the leaks and rumors, we can see the presentation of these terminals in January 2021, a notable anticipation in relation to the usual launch schedule.

Snapdragon is Qualcomm’s latest SoC

The highlights are several, from the reinforcement of connectivity and support to 5G networks, to the reinforcement of performance. Thanks to the new process or lithography at 5 nm, the Qualcomm chipset will use less energy and deliver more speed.

There is greater support for screens with a high refresh rate – up to 144 Hz, among other improvements that you can discover here.
