Martin Scorsese's new movie, The Irishman, premiered 7 days ago on Netflix. The film is being so successful that the content platform has shared on Twitter the number of streams the movie has so far grossed, totaling about 26 million accounts.
According to Ted Sarandos, Netflix content director, the platform counts as viewing accounts that have seen at least 70% of the movie (about 2 hours and 24 minutes). The movie has a total duration of 3 and a half hours.
The Irishman is the platform's most ambitious and prestigious content, at least this year. The film had a total budget of $ 160 million, rivaling other Hollywood blockbusters.
The Irishman brings together the familiar faces of gangster movies
The Irishman marks the return of one of the most beloved film crews: director Martin Scorsese and actors Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci. This trio worked in the past on the GoodFellas and Casino classics, playing roles of mobsters of Italian and Irish descent.
In fact, Pesci briefly left his makeover just to make the film, such is his respect for Scorsese. The deluxe cast doesn't stop there as we still have Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano and Stephen Graham completing this epic of criminal proportions.
