Apple has been in the spotlight not only for the launch of the new iPhone 12, but also for deciding to remove both the charger and the EarPods from its box. Despite trying to justify it with “environmental concerns”, it was clear that the objective would be to reduce costs and increase its share in the accessories market.
Now, as has been said on several occasions, new information is emerging that confirms the worst suspicions. Everything indicates that Samsung will be the first major manufacturer to follow in the footsteps of Apple, and also remove the charger and earphones from the box of its next top of the range.
According to the South Korean website ChosunBiz, sources close to the company confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S21 (S30) will arrive with a much “lighter” box, with only the smartphone, manuals and clip to remove the card tray. As with the iPhones 12, it seems unlikely that this decision will ultimately influence the final price of smartphones.
Samsung fans will be furious with the arrival of the Galaxy S21
The price of high-end smartphones has gone up unbelievably over the past few years. Despite presenting incredible technological innovations, it is becoming increasingly difficult to justify inflation in their prices, which are currently well over € 1,000.
However, in addition to major technological advances and design innovations, manufacturers continued to invest in the inclusion of “free” accessories in their boxes. For example, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S20, users were able to count on the inclusion of a charger with support for fast charging at 25W and the excellent AKG earphones with USB-C output.
Still, Samsung has already managed to leave its users frustrated even including the 25W charger. This is because the Galaxy S20 Ultra supports fast charging up to 45W, but for that, they need to invest in a new charger that costs € 49.90.
As with Apple, Samsung will also be accused of trying to “throw sand in the eyes” of users if they claim environmental reasons for this decision. Clearly, it will only be to increase the profit margin on the sale of new smartphones and try to maximize the number of sales of its accessories.
