The market for smart speakers has grown in recent years and Samsung is yet to complete its entry into it. Nevertheless, the South Korean giant is already thinking about its next product of its kind.

A patent submitted by Samsung to the competent South Korean authorities shows us a different idea. This document reveals a smart column with a screen that will roll up.

This smart speaker will be a true 2 in 1

This possible gadget will serve as a speaker and smart screen, as the user wishes. When “closed” the screen, we have a cylindrical product similar to the first Amazon Echo. When open, you’ll have something like an Echo Show or Google Hub.

That way you would have a gadget that would be used to listen to your music or to see your security cameras in one. Depending on your needs, you could roll or unroll your screen.

Although the patent does not reveal more details about the product, we can assume that it would have the Bixby assistant for the functions that we normally associate with this type of gadgets. With voice commands you could control the lights at home, blinds, security cameras and other compatible products.

Samsung has yet to launch a smart speaker

Although Samsung has already presented two Galaxy Home, none of them have yet reached the market. It is speculated that the Galaxy Home Mini may hit stores later this month, but we will see if that will materialize.

Samsung is at a disadvantage in this niche market, not only due to its late entry, but mainly due to its personal assistant. Bixby is clearly far from equaling Google Assistant or Alexa and that does not help to develop compatible products.
