The PS5 Digital Edition arrives on November 19 in stores in UK, being the cheapest version of the new PlayStation. Here we show the main advantages of the digital version of the new Sony console and identify the type of user for which it is intended.
We explain the practical meaning of the “Digital Version”, the advantages of this cheaper version, as well as the potential disadvantages. What is missing from this PlayStation version and what really changes between both versions of the PS5 console.
1. PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has the best price
The immediate impact is the price difference between the two consoles. The PS5 Digital Edition (825 GB) costs € 399, while the normal PS5 costs another 100 euros, raising the price to € 499. Both consoles can use the same official accessories.
Both Sony consoles are white in color and can be placed vertically or horizontally. Note that the PS5 are close to 40 centimeters in length, something that may condition your installation, with similar dimensions in both versions.
The new consoles arrive in stores on November 19 in UK, with the price set by the brand. In the box, each console will have a copy of the new DualSense controls, the necessary documentation and cables for connecting to the TV and power.
Thus, we can save 100 euros when choosing the digital version and invest, for example, in new games for PS5.
2. The Blu-Ray player will not always be necessary
The normal PlayStation 5 has a Blu-ray disc player, while Digital Edition does not. Therefore, those who already bought most of the games online (download), the PS5 Digital Edition will be the best purchase, standing out in the price / quality ratio.
On the other hand, since the new PS5 is compatible with most games available for PlayStation 4, players who have several games, especially on PS4 disc, should opt for the normal version of the new Sony console.
Since it is not possible to use Blu-ray discs on the PS5 Digital Edition, the user will also be unable to use the console as a Blu-ray player to watch movies. In fact, you won’t be able to buy any extra accessories to meet this need.
In summary, depending on the type of use, the choice may fall between both models of the Sony console.
3. The design of the new consoles is identical
Sony’s new PS5 weighs a total of 4.5 kg in the normal version, while the Digital Edition, the cheapest version, weighs 3.9 kg. At the same time, it is slightly slimmer since it does not have an optical drive, but both versions are the same height.
It is also worth noting that both new consoles from Sony have the same technical characteristics. This means that their graphics performance and processing “power” for games is the same, varying only how they can “receive” said games.
|Processor (CPU)||Ryzen Zen 2 from 8 cores up to 3.5 Ghz from AMD|
|Graphics (GPU)||RDNA2 Radeon with RayTracing and 10.3 Teraflops from AMD|
|Audio||“Tempest” 3D Audio Technology|
|RAM memory||16 GB GDDR6|
|Storage||825 GB SSD|
It is important to note that the two PS5 models have the same specifications, managing to “run” the games in the same quality. But, for whom is this new Sony console? The answer is below.
3 (extra) arguments in favor of PS5 Digital Edition
1.PlayStation Network (PSN). Anyone who has several games downloaded via PSN – and few on physical media (disc) – will be well served when purchasing the PS5 Digital Edition, better adapting this version to their lifestyle and game.
2. Streaming. The new consoles can be used to play content such as movies and series via streaming and, if this is the preferred method of media consumption, the absence of a Blu-ray player will not be regretted.
3. Game boxes. If there is no habit and / or taste to collect boxes of physical games and similar accessories, Sony PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is the best purchase for these players.
If you are not reviewing the three arguments presented above and want to watch movies through the console, have several physical PS4 games, or like to collect game boxes, the PlayStation 5 Blu-ray player version will be the best choice.
