Primal Clash is the title given to the fifth expansion in the XY Series for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It was initially released in Japan as the Gaia Volcano/Tidal Storm dual expansions, which make up the fifth block of the Pokemon Card Game XY Era. It's based on Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and features Generation VI Pokemon, Primal Kyogre, and Primal Groudon. The English expansion was published on February 4, 2015, and the Japanese expansion on December 13, 2014.

Primal Clash introduced Ancient Traits special effects that gave Pokemon advantages in battle. The Ancient Trait cards had the artwork taking up three-quarters of the card, with the rest coloured with the type of the Pokemon. The top of the artwork featured a bar that displayed the Ancient Trait and its effects. In the Pokemon TCG: XY -Primal Clash expansion, ancient rivals awaken! After centuries of being asleep, the powerful Primal Groudon EX emerges from the land.

Primal Kyogre EX crashes in from sea to ride titanic waves into battle. Mega Gardevoir -EX and Mega Aggron -EX is two new additions to the XY-Primal Clash expansion. Features of XY–Primal Clash

Primal Reversion debuts in the TCG with Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon.

• Twelve new Pokemon-EXs, including Trevenant-EX and Wailord-EX.
• The first appearance of Ancient Traits, which gives Pokemon some advantages in battle, is to be found on Pokemon.
• There are more than 25 trainer cards, including four Ultra cards that are rare and two unique energy cards.
• Two new theme decks are now available: Earth's Pulse & Ocean's Core

Each booster pack and theme deck contains a code card which unlocks digital cards from the XY-Primal Clash to be used in the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online.
