Brilliant Stars, the ninth expansion in the Sword & Shield Series of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, will be released on February 25, 2022. It was originally released in Japan as Star Birth on January 14, 20,22. This is the ninth expansion to the Pokemon Card Game Sword & Shield Era. Brilliant Stars comprises cards from the Japanese Star Birth expansion and the Start Deck 100 subset.
The expansion focuses on the Alpha Pokemon Arceus, which supports Pokemon V and the new Pokemon VSTAR mechanic. They evolve from a requisite Pokemon V, just like their predecessors. However, each has an attack or ability called a VSTAR Power, which, similar to GX attacks in Sun & Moon Series, can only be used once per game. Charizard and Shaymin are the other Pokemon that support the VSTAR mechanic. Brilliant Stars also includes the Trainer Gallery subset of cards. This collection contains Full Art reprints that depict Pokemon with a Trainer. It was last seen in Cosmic Eclipse.
Each Brilliant Stars booster pack contains ten cards. The code card can be used with the Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. A primary Energy card, which features a new design, or a VSTAR marker card, are also included. VSTAR markers are visual aids that allow players to indicate whether they have used a Pokemon VSTAR’s VSTAR Power.
This is similar to GX markers in Sun & Moon Series. The VSTAR symbol is on the reverse of trading card-sized markers. On the reverse, a Poke Ball design is displayed. Other products also had acrylic VSTAR markers. Five cards are included in each Star Birth pack. Arceus VSTAR, a star-filled planet, descends from the heavens to share its celestial power with all Pokemon V.
