The OnePlus 9 Pro will be the most premium of the range of tops that the Chinese brand will reveal at the beginning of 2021. Therefore, it is expected that this model will have some relevant differences compared to the other models and one of them has already been revealed.
As the well-known leaker Max Jambor, the OnePlus 9 Pro will be the only one with IP68 certification. This seal guarantees the equipment a resistance to water and dust, accompanying its main rivals.
It is important to clarify that the IP68 certification gives certified equipment the possibility of being submerged in water up to 1.5 meters, for 30 minutes. Still, caution is advised when contacting any smartphone with liquids.
IP68 certification will be exclusive to OnePlus 9 Pro
As expected, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9E are not expected to receive IP68 certification. This will be one of the ways found by the Chinese company to try to convince potential buyers to opt for the most expensive model in this range of smartphones.
This detail should not come as a surprise to anyone. The same was replicated with the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, with only the last to have this certification.
Still, it’s no wonder that the OnePlus 9 and 9E have subtle water resistance. As with the OnePlus 7 Pro, the remaining models from next year may be resistant to some splashes.
For several years, OnePlus was reluctant to put any IP certification on its smartphones. The company justified this option by reducing the costs of developing these products, however, with prices rising considerably, this argument was lost.
The OnePlus 8 Pro kicked off the inclusion of IP68 certification in the brand’s top end. Therefore, it is not surprising that his successor follows the same steps.
