According to information shared at XDA Developers, OnePlus is working on an update to support 64 MP lenses. Considering that there is no mobile phone in the OnePlus catalog with this lens, it is likely that the next device from the brand will have such a lens.
The most recent was the OnePlus Nord, which captured a lot of public attention. However, the year is not over yet and we will probably see successors to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. It will probably be the OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro. The “T” line is usually an upgrade, in order to keep up with later releases of the year.
The update found on XDA Developers is the OnePlus Camera app (v5.4.23). This update addresses several improvements to the stabilization level but also the aforementioned support for 64 MP lenses. Therefore, the future smartphones from OnePlus will support higher resolution photography.
However, there is a catch. On OnePlus smartphones with 48 MP lenses, the smartphone itself recommends the user to take 12 MP photos for the best dynamic range. With a 64 MP lens, that number is likely to go up to 16 MP.
New color “borrowed” from OnePlus Nord on the way
In addition to the reference to the 64 MP lens, a reference was also found to a new color, called “Gray Ash”. This will be a new color for the OnePlus Nord and possibly also for the future OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro.
