OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were the tops of Android that the young Chinese company introduced to us in 2016. These are two very well-built outfits with an overall quality to envy many of its competitors. Now, a year and a half after its launch, these devices are getting ready to receive the company's Face Unlock technology.
At a time when various technologies are significantly reducing the margins of your screens, new ways to unlock smartphones are starting to emerge. No more room on the front of the smartphone to allocate a fingerprint sensor, alternatives need to be considered.

Some brands have opted to transfer this biometric sensor to the back of their equipment. Others, such as Apple, are looking to the future and have focused solely on facial recognition on their iPhone X. In the case of OnePlus, the brand has decided to choose both possibilities.
That is, with the launch of OnePlus 5T the brand not only introduced the new Face Unlock technology but also transferred its fingerprint sensor to the back of the smartphone. From here the company wants to equip others of its tops with the same technology.
Since both models introduced in 2017 share much of their hardware, it was only natural that the 5 also received Face Unlock. After it has officially received this technology the company now looks at the OnePlus 3 and 3T.
OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will even receive Face Unlock facial recognition
Rumors were already indicating this possibility, but now we have confirmation from a senior representative of the company. Carl Pei, co-founder of the company, announced in an interview to CNET OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will receive Face Unlock.
Carl Pei's words were simple and clear: "There is no reason for us to retain features that can be easily implemented."And indeed there is not, since Face Unlock technology uses only the front camera of the equipment and its screen to illuminate the face of the user, in order to authenticate it.
Of course this is a much less secure method than Apple has adopted for its iPhone X. It makes use of a 3D face recognition, with spot projector and infrared for user authentication.
As with OnePlus 5, models 3 and 3T are expected to receive this feature with a simple software update. This could reach OxygenOS beta users within days and officially thereafter to all holders of these smartphones.
