After watching the big manufacturers battle the photographic segment, pushing the number of megapixels of their main sensors to the limit, now the focus has shifted to smartphone screens. During 2019, smartphones with 90Hz displays became commonplace.
It seems that by 2020, the vast majority of high-end smartphones will come with screens that have a refresh rate of 120Hz. However, ZTE wants to innovate in this segment by confirming that the Nubia Red Magic 5G display will support up to 144Hz.

Nubia Red Magic 5G could be one of the best gaming smartphones of today
Confirmation was made by Nubia’s president, who used the new smartphone to post a screenshot showing the various options regarding the refresh rate of his AMOLED screen.
As we can see in the picture, users will be able to choose between 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz. For now, it is difficult to get a correct perception of the difference between the last two options. Still, it seems guaranteed that at least for the gaming experience, users can expect an extremely fluid experience.
However, it is important to note that to get the most out of this screen’s capabilities, developers of major games also need to offer native support for 144Hz.
What do we know about Nubia Red Magic 5G
So far, not much has been confirmed about the possible specifications of the new gaming smartphone. As expected, the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor has been confirmed. In addition, it has recently been discovered that this will be the first gaming smartphone to come equipped with a triple rear camera.
Compared to its predecessor, this is a striking novelty, as the Red Magic 3 had only one camera at its rear.
Although not officially confirmed, it seems that Nubia may decide to introduce the smartphone during the first quarter of this year. If confirmed, it will surely be a strategy to counter the launch of the Xiaomi Black Shark 3, due in March.
