There will be no new Switch in 2020

I really want to see a new Nintendo SwitchIf you follow the news it is possible that you have encountered the occasional rumor or article speculating what this new console could bring to the hardware level. But the truth is that you will have to wait.

The first place, because the current president of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, has told his investors that nothing at all. Second, because new Switch would imply Nvidia’s new custom chip, and it seems that there aren’t many plans out there for that to happen. Although this really does not have to be bad news.

The original Nintendo Switch was launched in 2017 and it wasn’t until last year that it received its first significant updates. The classic Switch gained autonomy thanks to a better battery and greater efficiency of the new Nvidia chip. On the other hand, the company also launched the Switch lite, smaller and portable version, without dock to connect to television and without Joy with detachable. Still, it helped the company improve sales that had stagnated a bit.

Therefore, although for many the console would be in its mid-life cycle, at Nintendo they see that there are many more opportunities to grow and get performance from current models. Something that comes backed by the latest figures that place Nintendo Switch with a total of 52.48 million units shipped at the end of 2019. That makes it be placed ahead of Super Nintendo in terms of consoles sent. And in third position of global brand consoles, only behind Nintendo Wii and NES.

So, it is logical that they think so. What’s more, the company has announced a new Switch pack inspired by design in its popular game Animal crossing and that will be on sale next March 20, 2020.

The color scheme is beautiful and proves that yes, we would love to see a new Switch. Even more if we consider that the new generations of Xbox and Playstation are approaching at the end of the year. But if you have played Switch you will agree that it is another story. So with good games it is true that your hardware can be squeezed further. And there will be time for a new machine in 2021.

Of course, as in this technology you never know, despite having said it may not be that if sales slow down and investors squeeze, Nintendo ends up being forced to do something.
