NOS has made its second demonstration of 5G technology applied to real cases. The initiative took place on Matosinhos beach, where a surfer's “rescue” was simulated.
Using a remotely controlled drone capable of capturing 360º video, the necessary assistance that “saved” the unwilling surfer was activated. The demonstration was held in partnership with the Center for Engineering and Product Development (CEiiA).
The “rescue” process was followed in the simulated CEiiA control room. Everything was followed in detail with virtual reality glasses, and using the 360º images captured by the drone.
The 5G thus enabled to activate the Bathing Rescue System of the Municipality of Matosinhos. In addition, the technology was also used to "watch" the entire coastal zone.
US wants to use 5G to anticipate danger and emergency situations
NOS's idea is to take advantage of 5G's capabilities in the future to “anticipate, prevent and act” in dangerous or emergency situations.
NOS manager Manuel Ramalho Eanes has assured that the company will be at the forefront in the evolution of 5G in UK. The goal is to “do more for cities and people” as 5G makes cities “smarter, safer and more sustainable”.
This is the second demonstration made by the company exploring the potential of 5G. The first was promoted in May, and was applied to autonomous rescue and emergency vehicles.
