MWC 2021: world’s largest mobile technology event has been postponed

For the first time since 2006, the GSMA was forced to cancel this year’s Mobile World Congress due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, this scenario will not be repeated, with the Barcelona fair taking place later than usual.

In a statement, the MWC official announced today that the 2021 edition in Barcelona has been postponed to June. More specifically, the largest mobile technology fair in the world will take place between June 28 and July 1, 2021.

With the postponement of the fair that usually takes place at the end of February, the GSMA hopes to be able to guarantee the safety of all those who will participate in it. Once again, the Covid-19 pandemic is the main reason for this calendar change.

The change in the Barcelona fair dates will not be the only change in the GSMA events calendar. Shanghai MWC will switch places with the Spanish city edition, which means that the Chinese event will take place between February 23 and 25, 2021. For October, the event will continue in Los Angeles.

Changing the realization of MWC 2021 will certainly change the plans of many brands

The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the first major technological event of the year in Europe. For this reason, it is usually the preferred stage for several brands to present their equipment for our continent.

With the change of its realization for June, many brands will be able to modify their calendars to coincide with the Barcelona fair. Products that we usually see being unveiled in late April or May may be postponed until the summer.

It is still too early to talk about the protagonists of MWC 2021. If all goes well, the fair in Barcelona will open its doors to the public again next year, although later than usual.
