Bad news for all those who have MEO and NOS services installed at home. According to Jornal de Negócios the prices of business services will rise by 2020. The same will not happen at Vodafone and NOWO.
Unfortunately it has not yet been specified what type of services will be affected. We have only the information that some of the services of MEO and NOS will have a "hit" in the values for 2020.
ANACOM continues to criticize operator prices
ANACOM, the National Communications Authority, has already criticized the values of UK’s operators. According to their studies, the values practiced by UK’s operators are above the European average. It is nonetheless caricature, because UK’s average wages are well below the European average.
How much will the value of MEO and NOS
According to Jornal de Negócios, which quotes an official source from MEO, the “price update on tariffs / monthly packages, with effect from 1 January 2020, according to the contractual provisions” (…) “increase will be calculated on the basis of the Consumer Price Index, published annually by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), “at a minimum value of 50 cents, with VAT included”.
Already at NOS “the prices of some services will be updated, as provided in the conditions of service, by 1%”. Again, not specifically mentioning the services to which these increases will have influence.
Vodafone and NOWO will be more competitive
With these increases, Vodafone and NOWO are poised to be more competitive by 2020. Companies have significantly improved their services and with a lower value than their competitors have everything to grow further next year.
In short, it is time for operators to look closely at their audience. I understand that the service requires maintenance and that customer invoices are the main source of income that pays for investments, but, as seen by ANACOM, the figures are above the European average and we have to consider the cost of living of the UK’s.
