Instagram reels that last twice as long
Instagram announced a few months ago the official launch of Instagram Reels. A new function developed by Facebook and whose main objective was to present battle to TikTok. ByteDance’s platform is the current resin of short videos. So why try to do something different, better be honest and copy what works for them.
And that they did, so with Reels they not only allowed to create short videos, they also added tools that allow applying additional effects such as speeding up or slowing down the speed of the video to create fast or slow cameras, add a musical audio track from the Instagram library, augmented reality effects, etc.
With the idea of continuing to enhance its use, Facebook has now announced a new improvement for this functionality. From now on, users will be able to do 30 second long videos instead of the initial 15 seconds. An increase that is interesting since it allows greater creativity when telling small stories in a more complete way.
It is true that they are still 30 seconds away from the maximum that TikTok offers, but the current half minute is a good value. Although it is not the only thing related to the time that increases, also the timer function goes from 3 seconds to 10 seconds so you have extra time when getting high to start recording yourself. And the best part is that later you can trim and delete the clips, facilitating the entire editing process.
This plus other changes make Instagram Reels improve, although they will continue to have a difficult time stealing much prominence from TikTok. At the end of the day, in addition to how the users understand each platform, in a matter of short videos TikTok has an important advantage that is none other than its algorithm for selecting which videos to show each user on the timeline.
Instagram will continue to push Reels
These first improvements to Instagram Reels show that this is an important function for the company. It is difficult to say if it is already at the same level of importance as the Stories were at the beginning, but it is evident that they go all out with it.
That is why they invest time and effort in improving the options by learning from the users themselves, seeing what they need so that it is the first option they think of when publishing one of these short videos. Trying to turn around something as complex as preventing users from uploading the videos they post on TikTok directly to Instagram Reels.
If you haven’t tried them yet, here is a guide to understand and learn how to use Instagram Reels. A tool with a lot of potential if you have the time to invest in it.
