Instagram has taken one of the biggest and most ambitious steps in its history since it was acquired by Facebook in 2012. It's called IGTV and is YouTube's new rival. A new television to keep you (even more) clinging to your smartphone and social network.
A trend that has been going on since Snapchat Stories were copied, processed and assimilated on Instagram. Following Zuckerberg's tough (but effective) strategy, "if you can't buy them, copy them and bankrupt them."

Since then, with stories, it has been possible to spend hours passively watching television from instagrammers. Watching their lives and watching their short videos. All of this perfectly optimized for Mobile For mobile devices (smartphone and tablet).
For users with no time to waste. For busy lives and new consumer habits where everything revolves around the smartphone. Indeed, Instagram's new IGTV is a "new" YouTube designed specifically for smartphones.
IGTV from Instagram – the new smartphone television
The tool we use every day. The touchstone of all EBox and the gadget essential for millions of users. It is on the smartphone that IGTV from Instagram will shine, of course if users adhere to this new passive concept, this new way of watching television. To use it will be a new icon within Instagram. By clicking on it we will have a new content platform waiting for you. All for "mobile"
Above all, and in addition to being a new rival for YouTube, IGTV reflects our (new) consumer habits. Television can be used from the standard Instagram app for iOS, Android mobile devices.
We also have a dedicated app only for IGTV for iOS, Android mobile devices. In practice, you can either join the new television through the conventional app or through the new mobile app.
Videos up to 60 minutes, all in vertical format on IGTV
For the creators, in this case video, we have some conditions to be able to publish. Only verified accounts will be able to create videos up to 60 minutes. Everyone else can create 10 minute videos.
All of these videos from YouTube's new rival television will be recorded and presented in a vertical format. Here, just like the Stories we are used to, trained and completely addicted to in many cases.
You can use the swipes (swipes) left or right to "flip" between videos on the new TV. You may even be able to advance certain parts of the video (because patience is no longer a virtue but a rare and scarce good).
You can share any and all videos from the new Instagram IGTV via link, SMS, tweet, and more. Once again, everything you are used to, even the "Like" and / or comment.
How to find content on Instagram's "new" YouTube?
Your new TV, Instagram IGTV will organize all content into 4 main sections. 4 tabs on all your platforms (apps for both operating systems). Firstly we have the tab "For you"(For you). This will show you suggested content based on the pages / profiles you follow and your likes.
The second category will only display content from people / pages you follow. That's why it's called "Following ". The third category is "Popular"where, as the name suggests, will show you trends, just like on YouTube.
The latter category is also perfect for mobile devices and accelerated routines. It's called "Keep Watching"or keep watching. It'll show you content you left in the middle.
Can I also create my Instagram IGTV channel?
Of course, anyone / Instagram user can do it. To do this you just have to access the settings within the App and follow the instructions that will be presented to you. Note that videos must be recorded vertically and be at least 15 seconds long.
Already on a strictly personal note, I believe Instagram has a new asset here and an opportunity to create a new trend. Everything will now depend on your influencers and of instagrammers.
Especially at an early stage it is crucial that the product "catches sight" enough to become a habit. From there, with the viewer captive, we will have here a possible competitor or add-on for YouTube.
