According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, Huawei ends the year with a market share closer to Samsung than anticipated. The distance between the two companies is now only 3.6%, and Huawei is missing this gap to achieve its dream of overcoming Samsung.
Approaching the end of 2019, the numbers tell us all about the performances of the major manufacturers. Samsung sold about 323 million mobile phone units this year. Huawei stood at 251 million units sold, an impressive number despite the trouble with the United States.
Therefore, Samsung currently has a market share of 21.3% versus 17.7% of Huawei. Already Apple will maintain its third place, with 193 million mobile phones sold and a final market share of 13.6%. The apple company was able to temporarily outperform Huawei for a quarter but was not enough to secure second place.
Huawei may well overtake Samsung by 2020
Despite much controversy with the United States, Huawei has managed to close the year positively. The launch of the Mate 30 Pro was greatly hampered by the lack of Google services, leaving a big gap in the European market. Otherwise, it is possible that the Chinese giant had overtaken Samsung.
Either way, that goal is sure to move into 2020. Huawei is already preparing for the launch of the next-generation mobile phone P40s. Similarly, Samsung is preparing the Galaxy S11. So early 2020 will once again mark fierce competition between companies.
