Together with Mate 40 Pro, Huawei is working on the development of Kirin 1020, its next processor, manufactured by HiSilicon. According to a leaker on the Chinese social network Weibo, the production cost of the Kirin 1020 will be higher than the Apple A14.
The A14 processor will be Apple’s next mobile CPU, which is expected to equip the next iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple chips tend to be the most expensive, so Huawei has exceeded expectations in this component.
The Huawei Kirin 1020 is a 5nm chip that will be unveiled in September. This processor will certainly equip the upcoming Mate 40 Pro. As a rule, Huawei is in the habit of debuting its new processors in the Mate range, considered the family of the most powerful equipment of the brand and with the best possible performance.
US ban could hinder success of processors
The United States has not only banned Huawei from doing business with American companies but is also hurting parts supply. The US government recently limited TSMC, one of Huawei’s largest processor component suppliers.
The situation became such that Huawei started using processors from MediaTek, one of its competitors in China. Still, the Mate line is too important for the brand, and the Mate 40 Pro will inevitably have to be equipped with a Kirin processor, in this case the Kirin 1020.
