Huawei has just introduced its new line of premium smartphones: the Mate 30. It can be clearly stated that the Mate 30 Pro is the best smartphone that Huawei has ever made, and one of the best of the year. However it comes with a problem.
The smartphone does not have Google apps installed. That is, it doesn't come with Google Maps, Gmail, Youtube, or the Google Play Store itself so these and other apps can easily install.
This is because of the US ban on the Chinese company, and the ban on US companies from negotiating with it. This means that with the information we have, even if you buy Mate 30 Pro in UK, the experience will not be as expected.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro arrives with an Android trough
The smartphone will arrive with Android and the usual EMUI on top. The operating system does not change because Android is open source, so Huawei can continue to use it. The same is not true of useful Google applications.
The truth is that Android was not even mentioned during the presentation of the new smartphones. Google's lack of apps became clear when Huawei decided to showcase the app gallery.
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro has been announced priced in euros, meaning it will be sold in Europe. And while your hardware is absolutely impeccable, it will be hard to advise the average consumer that Google applications won't be available.
Installing these applications may not be a problem for more experienced users. However, the average consumer wants a device that simply works. And though of great overall quality, the software counts a lot for such a device in western markets. We'll see how this rock will be faced in Huawei's shoe.
