Huawei is launching Android Pie for some phones: knows if yours is included

Huawei is currently shipping the EMUI 9 (based on Android Pie) to some of its previous generation mobile phones. These are devices that were released in the last 3 years and will be entitled to the latest version of operating system.

Huawei did not list the models, choosing to put the series. If your phone belongs to one of these families, updates are already being sent.

Here are the phones already receiving Android Pie

 • Huawei Mate 9
 • Huawei Mate 10 Lite
 • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
 • Huawei P10
 • Huawei P20
 • Mate RS

These models will receive Android Pie only from July

 • Huawei P20 Lite
 • Huawei PSmart (2018)
 • Mate 20 Lite

Key features you'll get in EMUI 9

 • Mobile phone time tracking
 • PC mode
 • Gesture Navigation

Control of mobile phone usage time is part of the digital welfare ideology. It means you can control the hours you spend in each application. You can also set up alerts that tell you that you have been using your phone for too long.

With PC Mode, you can project to any monitor. A 'desktop' version of the operating system is then displayed. The phone can be used as a mouse and all your notifications remain private.

Gestures were the most noticeable novelty of Android 9. When you enable this option, typical Android virtual buttons disappear from the bottom bar. All navigation is done through slips, which many users find similar to iOS.

In our Mate 20 Pro review video, we show how you can use Android Pie gestures while browsing.

Termination of Android license does not prevent this update

Huawei's Android license will expire in August following a ban from the US government. From there, it is speculated that Huawei will launch its own operating system, compatible with Android apps.

However, the ban order does not cover mobile phones already launched. Therefore, Huawei took the opportunity to upgrade most of its mobile phones launched in the last 3 years, somewhat mitigating the problem.
