Huawei claims € 150 5G smartphones could arrive this year

Yang Chaobin

The statements belong to the chairman of Huawei’s 5G product line, Yang Chaobin. According to the executive, 5G smartphones at around $ 150 (just under € 150), may be launched in late 2020 or early 2021.

Huawei bet heavily on smartphones with the 5G mobile network in 2019. This made it sell 6.9 million devices with this technology, even exceeding the numbers reached by Samsung.

With few exceptions, 5G smartphones are still only on the market premium. But processor manufacturers Mediatek and Qualcomm are looking to lower the prices of these devices, and proof of this is that the Redmi K30 and other devices have already been launched in the intermediate segment with 5G.

The truth is that, although these efforts are already being made, many of these 5G smartphones are still exclusive to China. This is due to the fact that it is the only country, besides South Korea and the United States, to have 5G commercially.

5G in 2020 in UK is a possibility

The truth is that, looking at the UK’s case, 2020 may be the year where we will see 5G become commercial. This means that it may be available here, but in a still very limited geographically.

It will be interesting to see if devices with such low prices will be launched this year with 5G. This may mean that when the technology is commercial in our country, the devices with it will be available to all consumers.
