HTC U should arrive with water resistance but no 3.5mm jack

HTC U render

If rumors are known to materialize, the new HTC U should be introduced later this month. It is true that lately we have been talking more often about the Taiwanese company's new flagship, but that does not necessarily mean that it is just around the corner.

Beyond its possible specs, more than once has been said about the exterior look of the HTC U. At the top of this article are some renders which may well faithfully represent the brand's new high-end. And yet this weekend came a picture allegedly of this new smartphone, looking similar to the image above.

But today is the time to look again at the specifications and technicalities of this new smartphone. Needless to say, it is expected to incorporate the new Snapdragon 835 processor; a 5.5-inch Quad-HD display; 4GB of RAM; 32GB of internal memory and a whole range of specifications similar to the high-end ones already introduced this year.

HTC IP57 certified

This time we learn that the new HTC U can come with water and dust resistance, with IP57 certification. This means that you can submerge your smartphone in water for a period of thirty minutes and up to one meter deep. What's more, it will be resistant to the dust you may have to deal with in your daily life.

But if this could be the first high-end smartphone of the brand to come with water resistance, there will be a tradeoff. Taking faith in the information released today by LlabTooFeR, this smartphone will come without the 3.5mm audio jack.

This maneuver has already been carried out by HTC with its HTC Bolt or HTC 10 Evo, but never in a device it calls flagship. Whether this is a good or a bad decision will depend on one's perspective and that alone would give another article devoted solely to the subject.

It is well known that HTC is not in the best of its stages and this makes the technology community pay special attention to the new flagship of brand. Any doubts may be resolved later this month, but for now we are in the realm of speculation.
