Google Maps is one of the best tools you can have on your smartphone. However, it is also a tool that forces you to be connected to the internet. Still, there is a way to use it without spending internet on your mobile phone.
Be aware that you will not have the perks that the internet connection offers you. For example, you will not have to know how traffic is or whether there are road accidents. It will also be more complicated to look up the address by name (by postcode you will have no problems). So now that I only have 5GB of data for a month I have to save and that's what I have been doing.
Use Google Maps without spending internet – Step 1
Open the Google Maps app and click on the 3 dashes in the upper left corner.
Step 2 – Go to "Offline Maps"
Step 3 – Follow to "select your own map" (you can route by yourself)
Step 4 – Choose the area you want the map
Just keep in mind that the larger the area, the more memory you will have on your smartphone. Maps will update whenever you're connected via Wi-Fi.
Step 5 – Turn off the data (the internet on the mobile phone) and search for the place to travel.
Personally I like to find the place I am traveling to connected to the internet. To be sure that there I will be absolutely certain. After that you just need to turn off the data and "start" the journey on Google Maps and it's done.
It's done! If you turn off the internet you will not spend any amount of your data package and you will be able to travel Google Maps without any problem. Remember that there are limitations, especially with research. Still, if you need to search you just need to turn on the internet and it's done. That way you won't spend so much data or battery!
