GPD Mini Pocket PC Review

Let’s dive into the box straight away. Once into the sleek packaging, on the left, you’ll notice a few of the accessories that come with this device. There are the standard earbuds. A USB type-C connector cable. And the standard power supply. On the right, we have the GPD Pocket PC itself which runs on the Windows 10 Home Edition 64-bit operating system. Underneath, you’ll find a small plastic screen saver, as well as the instruction manual in both English and Chinese.

Removing the protective sleeve, the first thing you will notice is the smooth metal aluminium casing. On the bottom, you will find the Realtek Stereo speaker and intake vent, as well as the rubber screw, covers preventing the device from sliding on smooth surfaces. This device feels very sturdy and well made in the hand. Turning to the side, you will find 1 USB Type-C port, 1 USB Type-A port, HDMI port and the 3.5mm headset jack.

Next, we’ll power up the device and have a look at the display as well as demonstrate just a few of its potential functions. Using the TrackPoint and web browser, we’ll navigate to YouTube and play a movie trailer to show the display in action. As you can see, this video is running flawlessly in 1080p HD at 60FPS. Also, it can be connected to your big screen TV or home entertainment system to stream Netflix or play other content. If you’ve got an account with web browsing websites such as Sky Go, you can connect and navigate seamlessly to stream your favourite sports content. With access to the full version of Windows 10, the GPD can take advantage of any windows programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

With the power of this pocket pc, popular PC games. Such as Minecraft will run with no detectable graphical chop or lag. For those that enjoying streaming movies and television using the application known as Kodi. Simply download the official build from the windows app store. Watch all of your favourite content streaming in 1080p on screen. Lastly, we’ll take a look at the compact keyboard used as any standard keyboard. Only in a more portable state than many on the market today.
