Google Podcasts will start giving personalized recommendations

Like Spotify, Google is investing more in its podcast platform, Google Podcasts. According to AndroidPolice, the mobile app has started giving personalized recommendations in a new tab titled "Recommended."

Within that tab, Google Podcasts will start selecting and healing the most listened content and giving recommendations based on the user's tastes. This is something that happens to many content applications like YouTube itself, also owned by Google.

The new Google Podcasts interface with the "Recommended" tab

These are not just recommendations from a simple podcast but specific episodes, which makes things even more interesting. This kind of super custom selection is a ringtone that can help Google Podcasts become more attractive to new and existing users.

It is important to note that this function may not be available to everyone. As usual, Google has a habit of "dropping" these updates for testing and only then begins sending bulk to users. In any case, it is still a welcome news for the platform.

Apple Podcasts and Spotify Remain Platforms of Choice

According to the Anchor podcast hosting platform, Apple Podcasts retain 52% of those content listeners, dominating the market share in this segment. Spotify is in second place with 19% market share.

Note: These numbers correspond to the Anchor platform.

Google Podcasts has a long way to go with 0.9% market share. Applications like Stitcher and Overcast continue to dominate third and fourth places with 4.6% and 1.5%, respectively.
