Google Maps is an application that no longer needs to be presented. The App is much more than a GPS, it is an authentic tourist guide.
If you are like me, who uses Google Maps everywhere I drive, you will be happy with the new integration of Google Assistant that is already reaching some users.
New feature on Google Maps that is reaching users
This new feature called “Google Assistant Driving Mode” was officially revealed in 2019. Initially it would arrive within the Google Assistant application, however, users begin to receive the new design and interaction within the Google Maps application.
Unfortunately, it seems that only a few users are getting the news. On this side, both on the iPhone and on Android, I still don’t have the possibility to activate it. Still, you don’t lose anything in trying.
How to activate the new feature on Google Maps when you receive it
Apparently, the functionality is “hidden” within Google Maps. So for now, users really need to activate it. The folks at XDA Developers, told us how.
- Open Google Maps
- Click on your profile photo
- Navigation settings
- Google Assistant settings (enable)
If you can do all that, you’ll be able to get the new Google Maps. We have already shown the changes in previous articles, yet, if you are new here, here is a quick summary.
Changes to Google Maps with the new functionality
- Totally different design with bigger icons
- Google Assistant is an even bigger help
- You have the possibility to select Apps and icons within Google Maps
- You can control your smartphone by voice within Google Maps
Hopefully, this feature will reach all users soon. It is not yet certain whether it will only reach markets where the Assistant has a greater influence or if all users in the world.
