If you have an Android smartphone, Incognito Mode is now finally available to all users on Google Maps. This means that all your Maps activity will not be saved to your Google account.
The places you search or ask for directions are usually saved in your history. With this mode you will be able to hide them if that is your will.
What Maps will not save in this mode:
- Your search or browsing history in your account or send notifications;
- Update location history or shared location, if applicable;
- Use your activity to customize Maps.
Please note that enabling Incognito Mode on Maps will not affect how Internet providers, or other applications, voice search, and other Google services use and store your activity.
How to enable Incognito Mode
Enabling this mode is quite easy. Just open Google Maps on your Android device, and click on your profile picture. Then simply click on “Enable incognito mode”. Please note that you have to do the reverse process to disable the mode.
In my case, the feature is already available. Google warns that implementation is phased in and will reach all users over the next few days. Google is soon expected to implement it on iOS as well.
