According to Bloomberg and Ars Technica, the largest annual videogame conference will be canceled. E3, organized by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), is expected to make an official announcement today.
In fact, the information had already been advanced by the game distributor Devolver Digital. It published on Twitter, advising everyone to “cancel flights and hotels for E3”.
The reason for the cancellation is not new, unfortunately. Due to the Coronavirus epidemic, ESA was forced to cancel the event, in order to preserve public health. Therefore, the big names in the video game industry will not have a physical space to present their news this year.
There is no choice but to cancel the event. This type of conference brings together thousands of people from all over the world and is a risk that cannot be taken. E3 2020 joins MWC 2020 as one of the biggest and most relevant events of the year canceled.
The list of events canceled by Coronavirus continues to grow
In addition to MWC 2020 and E3 2020, Google also canceled two events: Game Developers Conference and Google I / O. The latter is an extremely important event for the company, as it is where Google Pixel and the new versions of Android are presented.
Facebook F8 was also canceled, as was the Nvidia Technology Conference. Additionally, the annual SXSW music, technology and film event was also canceled, to be held in Austin, Texas.
In addition to canceling events, companies are also suggesting that some of their employees work remotely from home. Apple recently had its first case of Coronavirus, discovered in an Irish official, who was quarantined.
