BMW is one of the most prestigious car brands in the world and is about to adopt one of the best driving aids. From July next year, German-brand cars will support Android Auto.
So far, BMW has supported Apple CarPlay in its vehicles, something that is beyond the reach of anyone with an Android smartphone. In addition, the brand has charged its customers a fee for using this service.
BMW cars compatible with Android Auto
- 2019 or 2020 Series 3, 5, 7, and 8
- New X3, X5, X7 and X6 SUV 2020
These cars feature BMW's iDrive software version 7.0 plus a touch screen dubbed the Live Cockpit Professional brand. We don't know if more cars will be added to this list.
You won't need wires to use Android Auto on your BMW
Another important thing to note about this news is that version of Android Auto will be wireless. This version has the advantage that you do not need to connect cables to the car, but it also has one drawback.
For now, only Pixel, Nexus, or Samsung smartphones are compatible with Android Auto wireless. This is Google's fault, and there's not much the German builder can do to change the situation.
Android Auto can be used on any smartphone with Android 10
Google has an alternative for all those who do not have a car compatible with their service. Through a standalone application you can turn your smartpone into a true Android Auto.
With this application your smartphone adopts a different interface that will facilitate interaction with it while driving. You can use services like Google Maps or Spotify. Plus, you have the Google Assistant at your service so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel just to call or text someone.
Since the app is not officially available in UK, you will need to download it outside the Play Store. The best alternative we have for you is APK Mirror.
