Facebook tests to bring users closer to "things in common"

Facebook tests new functionality to try to bring users closer

Facebook recently revealed that it is testing a new feature – "Things in common". This new feature is intended to bring together users who are not "friends" but have things in common.

After starting new tests on Instagram with the same goal, Facebook now wants to create new ways to increase interactions between its users. This new feature should be non-intrusive, which is always good news.

As revealed by the social network, this new tool will appear above user comments. For example, providing information that a particular user has attended the same university as you, works in the same place, or is from the same city.

It all depends on how it will be presented to users. But this new "things in common" feature seems to be quite useful. Sometimes we end up bypassing potential connections simply because we don't pay enough attention.

"Things in common" can prove to be a smart way to connect Facebook users

This way, this new tool can make things that would otherwise go unnoticed in sight. In addition, finding things in common among users will not only increase their interactions, but also reduce potential abuse.

This new testing comes as part of the movement created by Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to combat harassment on their platforms. What's more, this new feature may also help Facebook more easily detect fake accounts.

For the time being, this new feature is only in the testing phase and is being introduced only for a small audience in the United States. Most likely it will later be released globally to all users.
