EBox ATV is a cheap Nvidia Shield experience option
Today we are going to be looking at the NEW EBox ATV Smart TV Box. It runs on the Android 7.1.2 operating system utilizing 2G of RAM and 6G ROM and is unlike any other Smart TV Box we have previously offered, in that it takes full advantage of the Android TV platform. If you like the Nvidia Shield Platform, then you will love this EBox ATV Nvidia Shield alternative because of it more than half the price. Also, The ATV has support for Google WideVine Modular DRM and CENC ClearKey. Additionally, this Smart TV Box allows for viewing Netflix in 1080p HD as opposed to many other Android TV Box’s that only allow you to stream Netflix in 520p. In this post, we are going to take a closer look at all the features, in a little bit more detail below so read on to find out more!
Nvidia Shield alternative Video Demo/Review/Unboxing
Our EBox ATV is a good Nvidia Shield alternative, if you wanted a high-end TV box without the high-end price to match, the EBox ATV is the perfect Nvidia Shield alternative. This is not a Gaming TV box like the Shield making it the perfect choice for someone that will only be using this device for streaming, Kodi, Android app, Voice searches or any other day to day usages.
What you get in the box and design
Straight out of the box, we find the all black device to be quite compact in design. Turning to one side we see a power cord port, an HDMI port, an ethernet port and a headphone jack. Turning again we find two USB ports and an SD card slot for expanding the memory or for added external storage. Further, into the box, we have the instruction manual on how to use the standard remote control, as well as Android TV operational voice instructions. Rounding out the contents of the box, we examine the remote and find the familiar controls including a voice activation button with a dongle located in the back-battery compartment; and, of course, the standard power cables.

Here is everything included with the EBox ATV Smart TV Box
While the standard remote is quite functional, a quick comparison to the optional S77 Pro Remote offered by Entertainment Box shows a few stark differences. Both have voice activated functions, but only the S77 Pro has motion sensitivity for point and click accuracy, a backlight for use in dimly lit areas and a handy keypad found on the back of the remote for added functionality.
Why is this ATV a cheap Nvidia Shield?
Yes, ATV is a cheap Nvidia Shield experience you get the same YouTube Leanback Launcher and is designed to have the same look and feel. You can utilise your voice with the very easy to use voice remote. Below are just some of the voice commands you can use with the EBox ATV.
- “Play Narcos.”
- “How many episodes in Narcos?”
- “Play Folk Music on Youtube.”
- “Open Kodi.”
- “How to install Kody Add-on’s.”
The standard remote control, while functional, we do recommend buying the S77 Pro to get the best experience from your TV Box. This device uses the Android TV version of the Play Store, but if you download applications from other sources, such as Aptoid TV, they might require navigation using a cursor. In this instance, the S77 Pro excels beyond the standard remote with its motion-sensitive controls, point and click accuracy and the other functions previously mentioned.
EBox ATV Antutu Benchmarks
Next, let us view the benchmark test scores for the ATV Smart TV Box. As we can see here, this device has a respectable score and is powerful enough to be able to satisfy continued daily use.
EBox ATV AIR Play demo
To demonstrate this device’s use of the Apple AirPlay function, we’ve connected a cellular device to the EBox ATV. This function allows you to stream video, pictures, or any other media directly to your Smart TV.
Home Launcher function
A quick glance at the Home Launcher included with this device shows a simple interface with your applications found on a rotating bar at the lower part of the screen and recommendations on a bar near the top. As with many programs, suggested movies, games and TV shows are tailored specifically to the viewer based on previously watched content. With the suggested viewing selections, we find various content, but that will change as this Nvidia Shield alternative learns what kind of content you are likely to enjoy. For instance, if you enjoy watching YouTube videos in 4K, the device is likely to offer similar selections based on your current viewing habits.
At the very bottom of the screen under the application bar, we find three selections, including Apps, where a full list of your installed applications can be found. Clicking on this will bring up a window that might look familiar to anyone used to seeing Android TV Box application screens. There is even the full Android 7.1 settings bar on the right side. Navigating to the “about” section we can see that we are, indeed, running on the Android 7.1.2 operating system.
EBox Connect Free VPN
Here, we have the EBox Connect VPN service. This is a free add-less VPN service that comes preinstalled on each ATV Smart TV Box.

Access to all Google Apps
This Smart TV Box gives you access to all Google Play services, including Google Movies and Google Play Games.
