Latest MX2 software update Kodi Edition, Download MX2 Firmware

The following procedure will allow you to install our Latest MX2 software with Kodi. Full 1080p playback without any issues.

Just follow these simple steps. The Latest MX2 TV box software we have available to download is in the form of a .zip file. This means that the file is ‘compressed’ as a single file to make it easier to download. You will need to ‘unzip’ or ‘Extract’ the files from the zip file once downloaded.

Step 1.  Download the Latest MX2 software with Kodi from the following link:

UPDATE: We have added recovery files for everyone who has issues with their mx2, please follow this guide on how to create a boot card for your Mx2.

Step 2. Get an SD memory card that is at least 1GB in size Unzip or extract the downloaded Latest MX2 software ZIP file to a location on your PC. Once unzipped, you will see you have 3 files. Copy these to your SD memory card.

NOTE: This step of unzipping/extracting the zip file is very important! On a PC, once you have downloaded the file, you should be able to right click on the zip file and choose ‘Extract all’ then choose a location where you want to ‘Extract/unzip’ the files to.

Step 3. You should now have 3 files on your SD card called factory_update_param.aml, DroidSticks MX2 and recovery.img. (You do not need to unzip the DroidSticks MX2 now on your card, just leave it as it is)

NOTE: Please ensure that the 3 files are in the root of your SD card, and not stored within a folder on your SD card.

Step 4. Slot your SD card into the MX2 box and get yourself a matchstick, wooden toothpick, thin jewellers screwdriver or a paper-clip. You’ll need this to reset the box.

Step 5. At the back of the MX2 box, you will see a hole labelled ‘AV’. Inside this hole, at the end, is the reset button (told you you’ll need that toothpick!) Insert your chosen device into the hole and you will feel a clicking button at the end. You will need to press and hold this button for a minute.

Step 6. Ensure you have the HDMI cable plugged in now and the power cable in easy reach with one hand whilst you use your other hand to press the reset button with your reset tool.

Step 7. Push and hold the reset button using your chosen tool then plug in the power cable, keeping the reset button pressed in during this process!

Latest MX2 software

Step 8. With the reset button still pressed using your tool, the screen should flash up an opening logo. Keep the reset button pressed until you see the following image of the Android figure stood up:

Step 9. When you see the Android figure like this, you can remove your reset tool from the AV hole (and put it somewhere safe for next time). The progress bar below the Android figure will move to the right for a bit and then after about two or three minutes, you will see a menu screen. Simply choose to ‘reboot now’.

Step 10. Once rebooted you will see the splash screen. After about a 40 second wait you will see the welcome screen

Step 11. After this, you will be presented with a welcome screen prompting you to take a few steps to setup your WiFi or turn on your Ethernet. Once finished you will be presented with the Android home screen option window. Choose ’3D launcher’ and then choose ‘Always’ below it.

With this Latest MX2 software with Kodi, you will need to go to all Apps and select Kodi.

I ran this this software as provided but now after successfully flashing it according to the android display whilst flashing.
Powers on OK, the little blue ac light is on, but trouble is now there is no display signal being sent to my HDMI , and consequently nothing on screen. 🙁 is this what is meant by being bricked??
Any advice how i get around this……?? – any comments would be appreciated.
    Kind Regards

I would suggest everyone doing any update of firmware onto their device first unroot their device first even if they are using rooted firmware, I do so every time without any issue, it’s very easy to also, just a push of a button.

It also helps when going to stock as you can’t install stock over a rooted device, I see it too many times here so that’s why I’m trying to assist by telling you all.

    hi there
I install this softwere on my devise MX Android box (mbx g18ref ) but after its done installation and it was reboot the device not turn on anymore
so is there any way to turn it on

    • Entertainment Box December 21, 2016 at 11:18 am - Reply

Hi, your device may be bricked and there are no unbricking instructions here unfortunately. This usually happens when the components are not original and the firmware conflicts… Maybe you can contact your supplier for the stock firmware,

Hi guys, i can’t seem to find the link for the latest firmwire, after following its blank and update is a guide to the T8

  6. Ant Perry October 9, 2016 at 5:35 pm - Reply

    Hi guys,
I have 2 MX2 Android boxes. I tried to install this firmware on the first box. I followed you instructions, got the Android man and got “Updating” when i booted my box.
After the installation progress bar gets to the end the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I tried waiting for a while and then rebooting the box and my TV doesnt even recognise the box is there, black screen.

I tried to repeat the process but I cant even get the boot menu now after putting a paper clip in the AV hole.

Ok so i thought maybe my MX2 box is faulty, so i plugged in the 2nd one to check its working with the old firmware. Works ok, then i went through the process again and the same thing happened.

So I now have 2 MX2 boxes that are unusable. Any ideas how I can at least get the boxes working with the old firmware again?

    Thanks for your help

Hi, unfortunately we do not have unbricking advice for the MX2 here.

This has just broke my box all I get is blue light and black screen tried to install firmware again like says but nothing plus the recovery files are for t8 box I have read down comments and has broke more boxes will you be updating a fix for this ?????

    • Entertainment Box September 16, 2016 at 10:01 am - Reply

Hello mr Redman, try making your SD card into a boot disk then attempt to flash your device and hopefully it will be recovered. Because we do not ssupport this device anymore it is unlikely that we will upload more firmware for it but good luck.

hi lads , as above I have just updated firmware on my mx2 box it started update and now I have blue light on and black screen is there any instructions how to fix this problem

    Regards: john

    • Entertainment Box August 24, 2016 at 5:42 pm - Reply

Hello Mr Thompson, it appears that your MX2 may be bricked now but you can repeat the whole flash process in hope of recovering the device. The MX2 are also dualcore devices, have you ever thought of upgrading to something more powerful like a T8-4 with the Pentacore processor?

      Thank you.

Hi, I’ve been trying to update my mx2 to the software “” after following the steps above it brings me to the recovery menu, I then select apply update from EXT and choose the software but after a few minutes it says verifying update package… installation aborted.

I have tried to wipe data/factory reset. But still the installation is aborted. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    • Entertainment Box May 5, 2016 at 5:19 pm - Reply

Hello, I would suggest formatting your SD card then carefully add the files from your downloaded T8 firmware zip back unto the SD card. Attempt to flash your device which should give you the robot with the progress bar then will reboot with your new firmware. Using another formatted SD card may help,

      Thank you.

I have a dual core MX box running Jelly Bean, is this MX2 firmware compatible with my box?

    • Entertainment Box April 20, 2016 at 12:47 pm - Reply

Hello Geoff, this firmware is for the MX2 box that we used to sell so should be OK for your box but use at your own risk.

      Good luck.

hi i have an mx box running on ember OS and have searched everywhere on the net to try get it off and install android again. If i download this firmware will it overwrite the ember OS or will i need to try delete the ember off first somehow? Thanks guys

Hello Wayne, our firmware might over-ride that OS. You may try at your own risk.

could you help me or no can you help us?

PS: sorry if the english language is bad……its because i am dutch and the damn autocorrect wants to type something else

    Kind regards,

Hello Mika, we do not support the MX2 device anymore because we no longer sell them. The firmware on our site is still suitable for that model so we have it available. We have even more powerful devices than the MX2 like the H5 starting from £45 CLICK HERE

  13. Neil March 1, 2016 at 8:47 pm - Reply

Hi, I’ve tried doing the OTA for my MX2 from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3. It refuses point blank to upgrade. It will either go through the motions and at the end say deleting. I’ve even tried upgrading via a SD card but that only DOWNGRADES the firmware to 1.0.0??? Any idea if i can upgrade or should I wait until another firmware comes out? Also why do you still have the 1.0.0 firmware on your downloads?

Thanks to everyone involved at EB, you’ve always come through for me!

    • Entertainment Box March 2, 2016 at 11:37 am - Reply

Hello Neil, because we dont sell the MX2 device anymore we dont support the firmware anymore but the version that is available to download from us is stable and does work on the models we used to sell. Unfortunately your device may not be repairable but an upgrade to a quadcore 1080p device with later firmware from only £45 could be a better option for you?… CLICK HERE
