The habit of leaving a financial bonus to those who serve us in restaurants and hotels is not particularly expressive in UK, but it has been gaining traction in recent months. It is a small gesture of appreciation that treats us well.

So, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and thinking about catering and hospitality employees, the UK’s startup launched Classihy Tips. It is a new way of rewarding without having to touch money.

Classihy Tips is the UK’s system that wants to popularize digital tips

Now that (almost) everything in catering and hospitality has become digital and contactless, it is also possible to tip restaurants and hotels completely digitally. The idea is particularly simple and easy to apply in practice.

Through the feedback system developed by the UK’s start-up Classihy, in which the customer can evaluate each employee individually, but always in a positive way, the customer can now also digitally reward him.

So the classic “tips” that were given in cash are now at a distance of a QR Code.

The new creation of the UK’s startup Classihy

For all times when we especially like the service of an employee. So, we can now give you a bonus for your work at the end of the meal or stay.

To do this, you just have to identify the employee that attended (name and photo are visible in Classihy) and the payment method (ATM card or Apple Pay and Google Pay).

Bonuses are pre-defined and start at € 2, but can go up to € 100.

The money is placed in the account of each employee at Classihy. They can request a transfer to your account at any time.

Employees do not pay any commission to access this service. However, 5% is deducted to cover costs related to bank transactions and account maintenance.

New options and goals for employees

In addition to simplified bonuses, each employee can, in their profile, set personal goals for this money and make them public. This is so that customers who view your profile are aware of them.

These objectives, if the employee wishes to set them, are defined by categories and can have target values.

Examples of these objectives are:

  • Environmental Objective: Buy an electric bike to go to work / 900 €.
  • Family Purpose: Health plan for children / € 259.
  • Social Purpose: Adopt an abandoned animal / 400 €.

The customer can decide to offer a part of the objective of each employee or the amount corresponding to the amount that is still missing. In this case, the employee may request that this amount be transferred to his account only when he has completed the objective.

“We conducted a survey with some catering and hospitality employees and concluded that the number and value of gratuities received has decreased dramatically in the last year. Recent studies also indicate that customers are less likely to take cash and tip the classic in-kind. We then decided to create something that could represent an alternative supplementary income for employees, obtained in a 100% digital way ”says Ariane de Melo, CEO of Classihy.

For those who want to try this new way of gratifying, you can already do it in two spaces in Lisbon. They are the Tapas Bar 52 in Príncipe Real and the Restaurant of the Associação Naval de Lisboa in Doca de Belém.
